Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Soldiers Table

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a wide array of characters, and a exciting storyline featuring divine entities, demons, and sinister influences growing in influence within Dol-Makjar.

Heads-up: Spoilers for the third episode of Campaign 4 are included.

The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced

The third episode finished on a huge suspense moment and introduced the premier party of characters who will branch out from the central cast to undertake their own adventure, distinct from the remaining groups.

The combat-focused team consists of Teor (played by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

Considering an extensive roster, it was clear from the start that keeping everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.

Hence, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Introduction, intertwining the characters’ stories before branching into three distinct groups: Warriors, Planners, and Questers.

What Defines the Warrior Group

Per the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for participants who prefer a classically intense battle-oriented narrative style where non-violent answers are rare.

At first glance, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander might look unsuited, but the events of episode 3 make it clear why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the warrior group.

Reasons to Leave

To begin with, the group has a clear idea where to head next after a intense first encounter with the antagonists.

A former ally of the deceased character—whose demise kicked off the campaign’s events—manipulated the enemy for his selfish purposes, entering the hidden lair, assaulting the rogue, and stealing all the powerful objects to auction.

The traitor then settled his debts and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, north of the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each character has a individual motive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:

  • Thimble, as the companion and closest confidant, seeks revenge.
  • The adventurer has experience in the region and warns that it is a nasty location.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having defied his house’s orders to kill the target and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
  • Yet, their reputation as important members in the powerful family could help the group enter locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, The fighter pledged a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his rescue and will now accompany him wherever.

Fugitives

Finally, all of them are wanted by the authorities that govern the city for a range of causes, making staying in the city dangerous:

  • Thimble and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
  • The strong figure and Wicander betrayed the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
  • The target is targeted for elimination by the family.

This results in them no alternative but to travel to the remote area in quest for Casimir.

Upcoming Developments

Based on the latest episode’s Cooldown, we find out that the combat party will be absent next week, leaving the rest of the cast members to round up the Seekers and Planners parties.

Fans can anticipate finding out which players will be where in the story’s final introductory chapter, streaming live on October 24.
